In recent months, Bollywood has made significant bets on sequels and franchise films to capitalise on the success of films like Bhool Bhulaiya, Heropanti, and Ek Villain, among others.

In addition to the sequels to Tiger Shroff’s Heropanti and the period drama KGF, Kartik Aaryan was last seen in the horror comedy Bhool Bhulaiya 2 in May. In July, Ekta Kapoor added to her Ek Villain series with a new installment, and Sunny Deol will return in Zed Studios’ Gadar sequel.

Given the popularity of earlier films, the model might be intriguing, but critics and industry insiders say that current films like Bunty Aur Babli 2 have failed to convince them that advancing the plot is a good idea. The other difficulty is that Hindi movies lack the grandeur and special effects of Hollywood superhero movies, which are the source of inspiration for these sequels.

Actually, there are two primary reasons for sequel development. One is driven by creativity, the other by business. Extending a popular story in a recognisable yet original way is a wonderful business potential if fans have embraced it. The attraction of the first film will always be a source of inspiration for the sequel, according to Shariq Patel, chief business officer at Zed Studios. However, analysts claimed that in recent years, it has been difficult to market and consumers have been left down by spiritual sequels, or films with entirely different stories or casts but just sharing the same genre as the original.
